How To Find Your Next Job In 5 Easy Steps

 Hunting for a job can be a real pain.

There are hundreds of job boards with thousands of recruiters on there advertising their job roles.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. 

There’s also more to a successful job search than a quick glance on Google or Indeed.

Follow these five easy tips to make sure you supercharge your job search and increase your chances of getting that dream job.

1. Know Where You’re Going To Look & What You Are Looking For

I want a job.

That’s a generic statement that doesn’t actually explain what you are truly wanting.

Are you after a job as an administrator or as a cleaner or as a marketer? Are you after a role at a big corporate company or a smaller firm?

As Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” 

Basically, knowing what you want, where you are going to look and getting yourself prepared for your job search will save you time and make you much more effective at finding those golden roles that you really want.

Ask yourself what tools, websites and agencies are you going to use? Do I have a clear idea of the type of role I want?

A great example is: what job boards are you going to be conducting your search on? 

There are plenty out there for example; Indeed, Reed, Total Jobs, CV-Library and not forgetting the Morgan Jones Job Board!

Look out for specialist recruitment agencies that have jobs dedicated to your industry. Use them.

Look out for local generalist agencies that have a range of local roles that can be hugely beneficial, cutting down your commute.

2. Don’t rely solely on Indeed & Reed

Job boards and websites are a great way to find all the latest roles that are available and this should definitely be something that you include in your job search. 

The only problem with this is that adverts on job boards and any major website get flooded with applications. 

Ever seen the “How Many People Have Applied” tab on a job? It can be disheartening to see that in double digits let along (sometimes) triple digits.

Instead of just blindly job hunting have you ever tried online networking? 

LinkedIn, as you know, is a social media platform for professionals. 

Get on there, create a profile and start networking. 

These people are professionals like yourself. 

Helping build your personal brand on LinkedIn acts as an extremely powerful digital CV.

Even if you are not actively looking for a role, the possibility of becoming headhunted increases.

You can also apply for jobs and roles with companies across the world with LinkedIn’s system, you don’t even have to upload a CV as you can use your profile.

An estimated 70% of jobs are not advertised. That’s a lot of jobs that you will never see!

The solution? Do your research! 

Find out about potential employers and send them a direct email applying for the role. 

This is a great way to avoid busy job boards and get your CV in there straight away, talking with the person who will hire you!

3. Sign up to your local recruitment agency

Sign up to your local recruitment agency.

Once you are on their database they will approach you with any role that is suits your skills and experience.

They often have lots of roles on their own job board that may not be advertised on the likes of Indeed, Reed or CV-Library.

4. Update Your CV

We know you’re not always going to keep your CV topped up constantly. Thats OK.

But when you start thinking of applying for a role, give it a really thorough update.

Make sure you have all of the latest and most relevant experience and skills written down, that your format is clear and concise etc.
